FloridaCommerce Labor Market Update – September 2025

Note: Labor Statistics for September 2025 were delayed from Tuesday, October 21, 2025 to Thursday, December 11, 2025 due to the government shutdown.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Florida’s unemployment rate increased in September to 3.9%, rising just 0.1% from August 2025.

Florida’s Unemployment Rates

Florida’s unemployment rate was up slightly compared to last month (August 2025) and last year (September 2024). 

  • Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate as of September 2025, was 3.9%, which is 0.5% below the U.S. rate of 4.4%.
  • Compared to this period in 2024, the state rate is up 0.4%.

Florida’s Industries

Florida’s nonagricultural labor rate has increased by 0.7% since September of last year. Florida also gained the 5th most jobs among the 10 largest states  (+66,800). 

The seasonally-adjusted labor rates per industry for for September 2025 (in thousands) were:

  • Trade, Transportation, and Utilities: 2,015.7 (+0.1%)
  • Education and Health Services: 1,584.3 (+2.4%)
  • Leisure and Hospitality: 1,321.1 (-0.2%)
  • Total Government: 1,175.6 (+0.9%)
  • Financial Activities: 690.5 (-0.07%)
  • Construction: 653.4 (-0.3%)
  • Manufacturing: 430.5 (+0.1%)

Florida’s overall nonagricultural employment totaled 10,046,100, representing an over-the-year increase of 66,800 jobs and an over-the-month decrease of 400

  • Florida tied with New York for the 6th fastest over-the-year growth rate at +0.7% (out of the 10 largest states)
