North Central Florida Job Market Update | November 2023

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) press release, the national unemployment rate was 3.7 percent in November 2023, down 0.2 percentage points from the October 2023 rate and up 0.1 percentage points from 3.6 percent a year ago. Total nonagricultural employment was 157,087,000 in November 2023, an increase of 199,000 (+ 0.1 percent) over the month and an increase of 2,791,000 jobs (+1.8 percent) over the year.

Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has decreased from 4.2% in November 2021 to 3.7% in November 2023.

Job Growth Among the Ten Largest States (Over-the-year Change)

  • Florida gained the 3rd most jobs (+266,300 jobs)
  • Texas gained the most jobs (+407,100 jobs)
  • Michigan gained the fewest jobs (+33,800 jobs)

Florida’s Economic Growth

In November, Florida’s unemployment increased by 0.1% from October 2023 to 2.9%, with employment at 9,848,000. Job gains in Florida occurred at a 30,900, or 0.3%, growth rate, and the state was ranked third out of the ten most populous states in total jobs and job growth.
