According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) press release, the national unemployment rate was 3.7% in January 2024, unchanged from the December 2023 rate but up 0.3% from a year ago. Total nonagricultural employment was 157,700,000 in January 2024, an increase of 353,000 jobs (0.2%) over the month and an increase of 2,927,000 jobs (1.9%) over the year.

- Texas gained the most jobs (+263,900 jobs)
- Florida gained the 2nd most jobs (+259,600 jobs)
- Illinois lost the most jobs (-6,600 jobs)
Florida’s Economic Growth
In January 2024, Florida’s employment increased by 0.4% from December 2023 to 2.7%, with employment at 9,904,600. Since January 2023, the state has seen a growth of 2.7% in employment and was ranked second out of the ten most populous states in total jobs and job growth.
