Florida’s Unemployment Rates
According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Florida’s unemployment rate held steady in early 2025, with only a slight increase since May 2024.
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate as of June, 2025, was 3.7%, which is 0.4% below the U.S. rate of 4.1%.
- Compared to this period in 2024, the state rate is up 0.3%.
Florida’s Top Industries
The industries with the highest over-the-year job growth were:
- Education and Health Services: +3.2% (+49,200 jobs)
- Information +1.7% (+2,700 jobs)
- Leisure and Hospitality: +1.5% (+19,700 jobs)
The remaining six major industries also experienced positive over-the-year job growth in June:
- Trade, Transportation, and Utilities
- Total Government
- Professional and Business Services
- Other Services
- Financial Activities
- Construction
- Manufacturing
Florida’s overall nonagricultural employment totaled 10,062,600, representing an over-the-year increase of 142,300 (+1.4%).
North Central Florida’s Unemployment Rates
Unemployment rates across the Local Workforce Development Board 26 counties continue to track within 1.3% to the national average:
- Alachua County: 4.7% (6,616)
- Bradford County: 4.6% (473)
- Columbia County: 4.7% (1,337)
- Dixie County: 5.0% (291)
- Gilchrist County: 4.0% (328)
- Union County: 5.3% (226)
This reflects an upward trend in comparison to June 2024 unemployment rates.
Notable Employment Trends
- The Gainesville MSA added approximately 3,300 nonagricultural jobs since May 2025, and 3,700 nonagricultural jobs since June 2024.
- Education and Health Services remained the fastest-growing sector statewide.
