North Central Florida Job Market Update | March 2024

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) press release, the national unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in March 2023, down 0.1% from February 2023 and 3.6% from a year ago. Total nonagricultural employment was 155,569,000 in March 2023, an increase of 236,000 jobs (+0.2 percent) over the month and an increase of 4,145,000 jobs (+2.7%) over the year.

North Central Florida Area’s Employment Growth

In March 2024, Alachua County had a labor force of 146,097, but the unemployment rate increased by 0.4% to 3.7%, with a level of 5,412. The city of Gainesville’s labor force was 153,677, with employment at 147,961 and an unemployment level of 5,716. It has the same unemployment rate of 3.7%.
