Fifty percent of the workforce is expected to be self-employed in the next five to 10 years. CareerSource North Central Florida is fostering entrepreneurship and advancing the traditional model of workforce through Startup Quest®, an entrepreneurial training program.

Startup Quest® is unique in that it pairs teams of participants with professional mentors, who are successful CEOs and entrepreneurs, to create a simulated business based on a technology from Florida universities and NASA. Last summer, two Gainesville graduates licensed a NASA technology they discovered in the program!

The pilot program started in Gainesville, and its success led to a $12 million grant for an evaluation study by the Department of Labor. Because this an evaluation study, all Startup Quest® applicants go through a random selection process for acceptance into the program. Veterans receive priority of service. The training is offered at no cost to selected eligible participants.

  • Participants must be unemployed or underemployed with a post-secondary degree (Doctorate, Master’s, Bachelor’s preferred)
  • Be 18 years or older (males must be registered with Selective Service)
  • Be a U.S. citizen or be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • All Startup Quest® applicants go through a random selection process which is required for entry into the program, which has a limited capacity. Eligible and qualified veterans are exempt from random selection and guaranteed entry into the program.
