Home Builders Institute offers full scholarship training for Florida veterans. The national nonprofit building trades training organization provides quality training for more than 170 windows of opportunity in the industry and job placement assistance.

HBI has an 80% job placement rate in the building industry trade for graduates. Training programs are taught in local communities across the country. Veterans can earn a trade credential recognized by the Department of Labor and National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and receive OSHA training and certification all at no-cost to them.

HBI graduates are highly skilled, certified and in demand by businesses in the construction industry interested in hiring qualified veteran workers. As a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, the HBI PACT for Veterans program is charged with offering Florida veterans access to free training, which includes:

  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Professional mentoring
  • OSHA 10 card
  • 25% seated classroom time
  • 75% tools-in-hand training
  • Community service involvement
  • Pre-apprenticeship certification training (PACT)0
  • Job placement in the construction industry, with over 151 career options
  • Six months of no cost support follow-up services

HBI Florida Veteran & Transitioning Military Personnel Referral Program

If you refer a veteran or Soon-to-Separate (STS) military personnel who enroll in HBI training program and receive either the PACT CORE, OSHA 10 or CPR/First Aid/AED training, you will receive $100.00. If the veteran or STS military personnel completes the training program and validates their job placement or job promotion and remains on the job for 45 consecutive days, you will receive an additional $150.00.

Who can make a referral? You are eligible to make a referral if you are a veteran or STS military personnel and current or former student in the HBI veterans training program.

Who can be referred? Candidates are eligible that meet the criteria established by the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) listed below:

  • A “veteran means a person who served in the active military, naval or air service and who was discharged or released from such service under conditions other than dishonorable. Active services include full-time duty in the National Guard or Reserve Component. DD214 will be required showing the character of service.
  • Soon-to-separate military personnel within the last 180 days and within the TAPS program at one of the state military bases within the state of Florida. These individuals would provide a completed DD2648 TAP Completion Checklist or DD2958 Individual Transition Plan signed by the service member and Transition Counselor. DD214 will need to be provided upon final separation.
  • United States Citizenship/Authorization to work in the U.S. (one form of identification)
  • Florida Residency (one form of identification with name and physical address identified)

How do I refer someone? Complete a veteran and STS military personnel referral form or a documented email from the veteran that was referred. Please ensure to identify the HBI training location and staff contact on the form or email.

When am I eligible to receive the referral reward? Veterans or STS military personnel will receive the enrollment/certification referral reward ($100) approximately 30days after the eligibility criteria have been approved by DEO. The placement referral reward ($150) will be receive approximately 30 days after the placement criteria have been approved by DEO.
