Gainesville Job Fair Yields Over 1,200 in Attendance

Over 1,200 people looking for jobs were stationed outside of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center last Tuesday, and over 55 employers were waiting inside with open positions to fill.

Collaboratively, City of Gainesville, FloridaWorks, Regional Transit System, Santa Fe College, Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, Gainesville Regional Utilities, and Gainesville’s Office of Equal Opportunity hosted the Gainesville Job Fair. Different from previous city job fairs, Gainesville’s Office of Equal Opportunity invited community partners to the planning table and local employers and companies to participate in the fair. Some of the companies in attendance were Alachua County Public Schools, City College, Comfort Keepers, Gainesville Regional Airport, The ARC of Alachua County, Inc., Info Tech, Inc. and more.

Rosanne Martin, HR Manager for The Village, participated because the fair was relatively inexpensive and she wanted an opportunity to see what types of applicants were available to fill The Village’s open positions. “There was a great turnout with a large variety of people,” stated Martin.

Also this year, the first hour of the fair was devoted to early admission for veterans and the general public was invited in at 10am. Other resource organizations were in attendance, such as Three Rivers Legal Services and the Restoration of Rights.
