GAINESVILLE, FL – The CareerSource North Central Florida Gainesville career center will get a new home at the end of October.
The Gainesville career center, currently located at 4800 SW 13th Street near Payne’s Prairie, will close Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 at 5 p.m. and reopen Monday, Nov. 2, at 8 a.m. in its new downtown location at 10 NW Sixth Street. CareerSource NCFL will become the anchor tenant in the former Central Florida Office Plus building at the corner of University Avenue and NW Sixth Street.
A mobile unit from neighboring CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion will be on-site at 4800 SW 13th Street Monday, Oct. 26 through Friday, Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to provide access to basic job seeker services including resume preparation, online job search and job applications by local CareerSource NCFL staff.
Kim Tesch-Vaught, Executive Director of CareerSource NCFL, said the move puts the Gainesville career center in a convenient, central location accessible by public and private transportation. It also puts the Gainesville career center near key training, entrepreneurial, and business resources such as the Santa Fe College Center for Innovation and Economic Development and Blount Center, the University of Florida’s downtown Florida Innovation Hub, Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, and Alachua County and City of Gainesville government offices.
The new center will have a welcoming, open layout with a 45% increase in floorspace. It will be complemented by natural light from large front windows and feature a new arrangement for staff and customers in a flexible and open floor plan. Additionally, to enhance customer experience, the new Gainesville career center will boast upgrades to its telecom and computer systems.
Tesch-Vaught said the move has largely stayed on schedule and well under budget thanks in to support from the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners who provided assistance from Alachua County Facilities Management. CareerSource NCFL has also received support from volunteers and local businesses who are contributing goods and services to the project. According to Tesch-Vaught, the downtown Gainesville career center is on schedule to reopen on Monday, Nov. 2 at 8 a.m., though some services may be limited as staff transition to the new center.
Between July 2014 and June 2015, CareerSource NCFL assisted roughly 2000 business and 25,000 worker customers in its two locations in Alachua and Bradford counties.
During the transition, CareerSource NCFL staff may be reached by calling (352) 955-2245. CareerSource NCFL will hold a “sneak peek” event at the downtown career center on Oct. 27 from 5-7 p.m. open to the public prior to the move taking place the following few days.
