CareerSource North Central Florida Participates in Seventh Annual Paychecks for Patriots Hiring Event

November 22, 2019 (Gainesville, Fla.) CareerSource North Central Florida (NCFL) assisted 31 job seekers, including 11 veterans on Tuesday, November 12 at Paychecks for Patriots, a special hiring fair dedicated to employing veterans. The event was held at the CareerSource North Central Florida Gainesville Career Center at 10 NW 6th street from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the Florida National Guard and the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs partnered with CareerSource Florida regions to connect veterans with career opportunities to continue our mission to be the most veteran-friendly state in the nation.

This statewide hiring fair bridges the gap between Florida veteran job seekers and Florida’s companies. During the event, CareerSource NCFL matched veterans with employers who value the skills, knowledge and attributes veterans attain during military service.

“Our veteran job seekers are often highly-trained but can have difficulty translating the skills they’ve acquired during their time of service to the civilian world. Through the efforts of our dedicated career center staff and business services team, we work to bridge that gap– showing businesses see the value in the technical experience and soft skills our veteran job seekers have, and helping our veteran job seekers market and adapt their skills to meet the talent needs of our local employers. We’re grateful for their service and for the opportunity to give back to our local area veterans,” said Frank Avery, Executive Director, at CareerSource NCFL.

Veterans connected with a wide range of employers at CareerSource NCFL. Paychecks for Patriots provided numerous veterans with meaningful employment from 22 businesses that are dedicated to helping veterans and their families find careers that match their unique skills and aspirations.

“At the end of military service, the transition to civilian life can be difficult. You’re used to certain disciplines that are fixed into who you are as a person, it doesn’t matter what branch you served, or if you are a man or woman. As a veteran, there is no desire to unlearn the value, integrity, honor, and respect that now defines your way to live life. There is no greater gratification than knowing that you have served as a protector of your country.” said Arthur Flowers, a Human Resources Representative at Tacachale, who attended the event as an employee recruiter. “I love events like Paychecks for Patriots because CareerSource North Central Florida is able to show local employers how valuable veteran employees can be. They are experienced, and their commitment to their jobs and their willingness to work hard is priceless. CareerSource [North Central Florida] also helps our local veterans with the assistance they need to overcome barriers to employment, by finding employers to fit their skill sets. For me, that’s personally meaningful to see, and as a person who works in HR, it’s great to meet and recruit multiple candidates during one event.”

Through the Department of Economic Opportunity Veterans Program, CareerSource NCFL promotes the employment of Florida veterans, especially those with barriers to employment. Veterans can visit the Gainesville or Starke CareerSource NCFL career centers to receive services such as assistance with creating resumes, conducting job searches, applying for jobs, learning about veteran’s benefits, education and training, and specialized case management services to veterans who experience significant barriers to employment. The Veterans Program also conducts outreach to employers to develop employment opportunities for veterans, ensuring that veterans are provided the full range of priority for workforce services.
