What is Own Your Future?
Similar CareerSource NCFL programs have demonstrated that participants in entrepreneurship training are more likely to re-enter the workforce in traditional employment or become self-employed, earn higher wages, and are likely to get a job more quickly than participants who haven’t gone through entrepreneurship training.Participants in the program will be better prepared to directly enter the workforce or to enter on-the-job training in technology positions available through Opportunity Quest starting summer 2018.
“We’re excited to continue leveraging entrepreneurship training as a core strategy for increasing the quality of our workforce,” said CareerSource NCFL Board Chair and CEO of Study Edge Ethan Fieldman. “‘Own Your Future’ will give participants a view of what it’s like to be a CEO, help them better understand the very real impact of the decisions executives make every day, and therefore help them make better decisions on the job.”
Participants planning to apply for scholarships through Opportunity Quest must meet specific criteria: Enrollees must be 18 or older, U.S. citizens authorized to work in the U.S., and custodial parents or legal guardians of a child age 13 and under, or of a dependent child over 13 who has a disability. They must also have limited higher education experience, meaning less than a two year college degree, and limited work history.
Participants not eligible for Opportunity Quest may be eligible for scholarships through other CareerSource NCFL programs and can speak with staffing specialists during the Introductory Workshop.
